A Business Attorney For Today's Ever-Changing Economy

I am business attorney Richard E. Steck. As an Illinois native, I look out for the best interests of state-based businesses. My success helping them has resulted in a practice that spans the country.

After graduating with a B.A. from Northwestern University and a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin, where I served on the Law Review, I began my career as a public interest lawyer and then became a prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Transportation. Those experiences provided me with unique insight into transportation and administrative law and how they intersect with commercial law and international trade law cases.

A Simple, Straightforward Approach To Complex, High-Stakes Legal Problems

While business and communications and media law cases frequently involve complicated questions of fact and complex issues of law, my approach to representing clients is simple and without frills. Clients have problems. They want them solved. They come to me for solutions. I solve their problems with efficiency, effectiveness and affordability. Few things affect the daily operations and bottom line of a business like disputes with customers, vendors, competitors, pirates and regulatory agencies.

Oftentimes, solutions can be negotiated when adverse parties are willing to come to the table. However, when negotiations fail, my clients need more than a mediator or litigator; they need a trial attorney who will protect their rights before a judge and jury. An experienced trial attorney on your side may enhance the prospect of a negotiated settlement. When a trial becomes necessary, it may prolong the process and increase costs, but it may also provide the best outcome and save a business from serious consequences.
